With the offseason in the books and into Day 2 of the preseason, it's never to early to talk about why you should be watching the Houston Dash in 2023. Here are three reasons why they should considered the favorite.,
The Houston Dash's acquisition of Diana Ordonez turned an already strong offense into the most formidable one. Yes, the regular season hasn't even begun but you can't help but be enamored with this offense. Ordonez as a rookie was the league's fourth leading scorer while Ebony Salmon who played her first game with Dash last July finished in the top 10 in scoring and nearly broke the franchise single season scoring record in a half season. Add in Nichelle Prince, Maria Sanchez, Shea Groom, Michelle Abram and Ryan Gareis and who knows how potent this group can be.
The build up can be just as potent depending on how new Dash head coach Sam Laity decides to scheme things. Whatever it is, you can assume Groom will be in the middle of it all and the wingers will be quicker, faster and able to stretch defenses and facilitating scoring opportunities faster then Superman and the speeding bullet. This could be Prince and Gareis the most versatile player on the Dash. A rookie last season Gareis became an important cog in the team's move to the playoffs.
The backline with aga will have players coming off the bench who could be All-Star starters elsewhere. One thing is for sure Katie Naughton will anchor the backline along with Canadian international Allysha Chapman who shows no signs of slowing down. Emily (Ogle) Curran is back as is Caprice Dydasco as is Natalie Jacobs, Ally Prissock, and Michelle Alozie
These are three obvious reasons and then there is Jane Campbell between the pipes. Nothing else needs to be said.
Throw in the possibility that one or more of their draft picks could have an impact and who knows how good this team can be.
