The Houston Dynamo have had some pretty good goal scorers come there way since arriving in the Bayou City in 2006. Now Sebastian Ferreira has arrived on the scene and he could be the best one yet.

On the morning of January 18, 2022, few knew how good the signing of Ferreira would become for the club. The 24 year old forward became the most expensive signing in club history. Representing Paraguay at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 level, he scored six goals in 11 appearances. In Liga MX, he had 16 goals and four assists in 52 outings. Then came Libertad where he won the league's Golden Boot in consecutive seasons of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. After scoring 34 goals and handing out 12 assists in 79 appearance, it was off to Houston.

Scoring at all levels and against all kinds of competition is nothing new for the right-footed striker. He started off slow with no point through his first five games with Houston. On April 9th, in a dramatic 4-3 win over San Jose, Ferreira found the back of the net twice leading to five goals in his next six games. The brace against the Earthquakes was the first of three in his inaugural MLS season and also the first of three times being honor as a member of the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week.

Goal scorers are an interesting breed. The goals seem to come in bunches at times and they seem to be either as ritualistic or superstitious which ever word you choose when it comes to certain things. Ferreira is no different talking about why he hadn't scored in six matches prior to Sunday night.

“After cutting my hair I regretted it, but there was no other way," explained Ferreira. "I tried to get it to grow as fast as possible up there. As soon as I could I tied a ponytail in my hair again and the goals came back”.

With 12 goals and 3 assists in 2022, no player has been more prolific then number nine in their first season with Houston. His record setting season surpassed all-time Dynamo scoring great Brian Ching's 11goals in the Dynamo's first season in Houston. Giles Barnes would have nine in his first full season. Mauro Manotas, number two on the all-time scoring list with 51 goals only had six in his first full season while Will Bruin had just five.

At just 24, barring injuries Ferreira could be challenging Ching's top spot once he becomes even more acclimated to the league and the team. For now though, he is just happy to have the record but happier that his team claim a win in the process.
