Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen and the entrusted braintrust continue to dismantle the Houston side. A day ago, they sent midfielder Matias Vera packing back to his native Argentina to play for the Argentinos Juniors.
Vera featured in 108 matches for the Houston dynamo since joining them in 2018. The native Argentinian came to Houston on full loan from San Lorenzo on December 21, 2018.
A steady midfielder for Houston, he started 28 of the team's 34 matches in 2022. In 2021, he started 29 of his 30 appearances. Excelling at distribution, Vera completed 91% and 88% of his passes respectively in 2022 and 2021.
The move to loan out the 27 year old midfielder means the Hector Herrera who came to Houston last July will start 2023 with nearly every consistent start from last year's roster now removed. With all the moves, what is the plan for Herrera and how long will he want to remain in Houston? That is a story for another day.
