On Wednesday afternoon June 22, 2022, the Houston Dynamo FC/Houston Dash announced the new stadium upgrades coming in 2023.The upgrades that had been rumored to be coming appear to be moving towards fruition.
When team owner Ted Segal took over, he spoke about a new look to the stadium and for those who may consider griping about the potential now for increased ticket prices to pay for these changes, just remember it's cheaper than a new stadium and at least we don't have an owner threatening to move the club. Many thought that Segal would do exactly that but thus far he seems to believe in the organization being in Texas. The goal is to enhance the fan experience.
“As I have said since my first day, one of our biggest priorities is to enhance the game day experience for our supporters,” Segal said. “These improvements to PNC Stadium will allow us to improve the experience for every person who walks through our gates, draw more fans to the stadium and in turn give our players a stronger home field advantage. This project will also make our facility a more active and engaged community asset that serves as a more attractive destination for additional soccer and non-soccer events.”
The two biggest introductions today include mesh seating and the new East Club. The mesh seating produced by 4Topps are all across the sports venue system including MLS clubs Clumbus Crew and Austin FC. The breathable seating allows for 30% more cooling and in Houston Texas where it has been 100 degrees plus for the last week that is a welcom addition.
The new East Club will be very similar to the West (PNC) Club on the opposite side of the stadium. The club will contain the three innermost lower level sections of the stadium and accommodate more than 800 fans. It will feature high back mesh seating. There will also be nine loge boxes able to seat eight guests each. The loge boxes and the climate controlled club area will be all inclusive to include alcohol. The enhancements will double the luxury hospitality experience available at the stadium.
This is the second of a series capital investments by the organization. Last yaer, the Supporters Zone received on the north end of the stadium a safe standing zone. At the South end, they removed the original seating from 2012 and created an upscale Shell Energy Sports Deck and Pitch Zone.
