Houston Dash with a big trade day move; acquiring Ordonez from NC Courage
By Louis Roesch
The Houston Dash started Draft Day 2023 with a bang landing Diana Ordonez and the 30th pick from the North Carolina Courage in exchange for Houston’s No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 Draft, $100,000 dollars in allocation money, Houston’s natural 2024 first round pick and an international
spot for 2023.
Ordonez, drafted by NCC in 2022 exploded onto the scene finishing fourth in the NWSL scoring column with 11 goals finishing just ahead of new teammate Ebony Salmon. The addition of the El Tri forward strengthens what is already considered one of the best offenses in the league.
"Since her professional debut, Diana has shown that she is a skilled finisher in the box," Dash head coach Sam Laity said. "She was a player that I dreaded going against last season, and I am happy she will be on our side next season. Diana is the kind of player we want on our front line - fast, creative, and deadly in attack. I am excited to have her join us in Houston."
The Prosper, Texas native will also be teamed with Mexican National teammate Maria Sanchez where she scored a brace in her international debut as a second half sub last April.
