Houston Dash name Alex Singer general manager
By Louis Roesch
Since her hiring Houston Dash president Jessica O'Neill has been wearing multiple hats. Now with the hiring of Alex Singer as the team's next general manager, O'Neill has one less hat to wear within the organization.
Singer, a former professional player who played in Germany, Australia, Sweden, Norway and the NWSL brings a plethora of knowledge and experience to the position. She has been instrumental in helping current professional athletes, top female athletes and media personalities in brand development and marketing. Perhaps though, her biggest influence was being part of the team that helped negotiate the NWSL's most lucrative player contract.
Her duties begin on September 6th. Her focus will be squarely be soccer operations, player personnel and roster management. She steps into a position where the Houston Dash are in the most profound moment of franchise history. Houston is on the verge of their first playoff berth in team history and possibly their first NWSL crown.
O'Neill's announcement of Singer's hiring on Wednesday set the bar high for what she and the organization expect. “Adding Alex to our organization is an important step forward as we look to establish sustained success, attract and retain top talent and operate as a best-in-class organization," said O'Neill. It won't be easy but with the groundwork laid over the past year with key signings and contract extensions, it won't be quite as difficult to achieve.
If Singer's comments are any indication, she knows the challenge ahead and is ready to meet it. "I am excited to build on the foundation to become the best women’s soccer club in the world, competing at championship levels for years to come.”
