Houston Dash forward Ebony Salmon arrived in the Bayou City amidst a lot of fanfare and hype. In just her second appearance with the club, she garners a hat trick and NWSL Player of the Week honors.
Salmon arrived via the trade market from Racing Louisville FC on June 27, 2022. She featured four days later in her Dash debut almost a year to the day when she scored her first career goal as a sub for Racing at PNC Stadium. The goal proved to also be the game winner.
The English native has had a proclivity to score everywhere she has been. With all of their top goal scorers gone to to international duty, Houston looked to keep one of the best offenses this season on track. The trade cost Houston very little and the early returns have been skyrocketing.
The Houston Dash's newest acquisition showed the flashes with her teammates in her debut performance although not finding the back of the net in a one nil loss. This past Saturday night, she and the Dash showed what another week of work could do.
In an interview with Theo Lloyd-Hughes of The Striker Texas, her message was simple and direct.
“I’m taking my anger from not playing in Louisville and I’m going to show what I can do here when I get on the pitch.”
In her second match as a member of the Houston Dash, she did just that. Not only did she record the second hat trick in Houston Dash franchise history but at 21 years old she is the youngest to record the feat in NWSL history. Her three goals for Houston, makes the franchise the third in NWSL history to have multiple hat tricks. Teammate Nichelle Prince who had the first hat trick in Dash history was also named POTW for her effort.
With the return of Maria Sanchez this past week and the expected return of Prince and possibly Daly, an offense that is already second in the league in goals scored is poised for a great run to the playoffs.
