There aren't enough words to describe the latest signing of the Houston Dynamo. Arguably Hector Herrera is not only the real deal but the biggest splash ever made by the Houston franchise. Herrera brings instant credibility to a club searching for an identity once he arrives.
Currently, he is under contract with Atletico de Madrid in La Liga into the summer of 2022. The Mexican team captain has been a winner everywhere and at the highest levels of the greatest game on grass. There is but one trophy that he has not raised but is looking to do so in Qatar as he leads Mexico to the World Cup.
At 31 years old Herrera is in the prime of his career. which makes the signing even more spectacular for a franchise that has been trying for the better part of five years to find a Hispanic face for the franchise. Herrera has never had a bad word said which adds to the allure. He has expressed the desire to come to Houston and be a groundbreaker. This makes him better than anyone the organization has tried to cultivate to this position.
Everyone from the top down is banking on Herrera being everything here that he has been elsewhere. The Mexican native is not a goal scorer but he is a facilitator and he raises the level of every player around him. On the pitch this will translate into wins in the coming years. 2022 will be a wash as the club's playoff hopes and season could very well be determined the time he actually steps on the pitch for the Orange.
Herrera was a great signing and will prove invaluable over the coming years. He will be instrumental in the Houston Dynamo's return to prominence in Major League Soccer.
