Jack McGlynn belongs to a select group of players that are rare to come by nowadays. Players who have great touch with the ball along with excellent technique and vision, who can place the ball wherever they want to.
Jack not only scores golazos but he is also outstanding without the ball. He unmarks himself easily, moves well, and positions himself in a way that is easy for his teammates to spot him, effectively transitioning into the last third.
Jack McGlynn gets USMNT call (and it could reshape his entire career)
Jack has been by far the most important player in the Dynamo squad this season. He has totaled two goals and five assists in 16 games played. A performance so strong that it has caught the eye of USMNT Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino, and has earned him a call for not only the two friendlies against Turkey (where he scored a goal in the first minute) and against Switzerland, but he was selected to be a member of the USMNT roster for the Gold Cup that started in June 15th.
In the recent friendly, Jack scored from long distance against Turkey. It is surprising how easily he can shoot from anywhere in the field.
He is also a very quick player, he does not allow the opponents to get comfortable. He passes the ball and he is already thinking about the next play, similar to a good chess player who is thinking two, three, or four moves ahead.
The Dynamo should be extremely happy with his performance, but also a little worried. I doubt they are going to be able to keep him in Houston for too long. Unfortunately for the Dynamo, McGlynn’s contract only lasts a year, it expires at the end of the 2025 season and there are already rumors of European teams that have shown interest in the young American.
McGlynn was a starter in the first Gold Cup group match for the United States against Trinidad and Tobago where he played 74 minutes and assisted on the first of the five goals the Americans scored.
There are teams like Deportivo Alaves, Parma are interested in signing McGlynn. Other teams like PSV, Anderlecht, and Real Sociedad are also interested
It is important for a player not only to do well at the club level but also to be able to perform at the national level with a new group of players.
McGlynn has passed the test and it will not be long before he leaves Houston. When he leaves I know for sure the city and the fans will miss him.
